TJC Polymers: Leading the Way in Material Science
Ballistics Applications
At TJC Polymers, our micro-composite fibers enable a better choice to protect our military and police officers. TJC Polymer solutions are much thinner than our competitors, enabling greater mobility and effectiveness. UHMPE is 50% thicker for the same weight ballistic protection which makes all the difference for >99.9% of the time ballistic protection is worn. For the <0.01% of the time ballistic protection is demonstrated we have you covered. Our materials have very high toughness which allows lighter weight for the same level of protection, or dramatic improvement in protection at the same weight as our competitors, it’s your choice. Outstanding thermal performance inherent in TJC Polymer fibers exceed requirements for FR in a broad range of equipment like knee pads, back packs, gloves and other gear enabling further protection exceeding solutions common today. Our material remains strong at temperatures our competitors cannot endure.
Elevate Firefighter Protection with TJC Firesafe
Firefighters are the ultimate heroes, and at TJC, we’re committed to protecting them like never before. Our cutting-edge FR materials are designed to provide unparalleled performance, giving firefighters the superhero-level protection they deserve—one that is inherent and won’t wash away.
From the very first test against traditional materials like Kevlar, Twaron, and Nomex, we knew we had created something extraordinary. While these materials protect well, they can scorch, become brittle, and char under intense heat, our TJC Firesafe fabric remains virtually untouched, proving its superior resilience. When a colleague asked, “When will you test this one?” our fabric looked untouched among a table full of burned competitive samples, we proudly shared that our Firesafe sample was tested and still looks as pristine after testing as it did on day one.
Our innovative black fabrics are made with graphene (one of the strongest materials on the planet), ensuring they stay true to color, unlike competitive materials that are dyed and fade over time. This advanced technology delivers a remarkable leap in fire protection, making TJC Firesafe your go-to choice during critical moments, whether facing flashover events or rescuing team members from a collapse by pulling them by their gear.
We understand that durability is key. That’s why our FR solutions is tailored to offer exceptional abrasion resistance, UV protection, and reduced pilling—challenges often faced with traditional firefighter gear. While materials like Kevlar and Nomex have made their mark, it’s time for the next evolution in firefighter safety: TJC Firesafe.
Experience the difference with TJC Firesafe—where superior FR properties are inherent in our materials, ensuring you’re always protected. Choose the future of firefighter gear today.
Elastomer Composites Applications
Tire and power transmission belting industry is driving towards highly efficient composites to address increasing torque and power ratings, which translates into greater number of flex cycles, millions of bending cycling for elastomeric or thermoplastic composites. To achieve efficient goals, engineers are developing stronger, more robust tires and belting, utilizing steel, glass, para-aramid and carbon fiber as reinforcement. These reinforcing fibers are now well established in the industry, for example past 20+ years carbon fiber has been used for high performance premium belting applications.
Today, and for the future industry is working closely with TJC Polymers manufacturing the next generation high strength fiber for tires and belting, customized for specific application needs. Unfortunately, synthetic fibers sourced today for tires and belting, typically have surface treatments designed for resin systems in aerospace rigid composites. TJC polymers tailored solutions, produce fibers with chemical functionality on surface of fiber optimized for elastomers and polymers, enabling significant increase in fiber-matrices chemical bonding, resulting in performance the industry has not seen before.
Space Exploration Applications
In the high-stakes environment of space exploration, materials used in Intravehicular (IVA) and Extravehicular Activity (EVA) suits mobility and comfort are the key. These materials must withstand extreme conditions, including thermal cycling from 250F to -373F, while providing cut protection, and durability against radiation. At TJC Polymers, our polymer composites enable the thinnest designs for maximum mobility. Operating in the vacuum of space is challenging. Astronauts live in a low-pressure environment where normal air would be like mount Everest. To compensate, the atmosphere inside suits, space craft, and space stations maintain high oxygen environments. The lower the pressure the better, but that requires very high oxygen environments where even the best FR materials from earth burn. Our textile solutions deliver comfort in high oxygen environments where other materials are not even allowed.
Naval Industry
Ensuring the safety and performance of naval vessels requires materials that excel in multiple areas, including fire resistance. At TJC Polymers, we develop advanced flame-resistant composites for use in fire-rated bulkheads and other critical components aboard naval ships. Our polymers are engineered not only for superior flame resistance but also to offer corrosion resistance, impact durability, and thermal stability. Additionally, their lightweight nature contributes to improved fuel efficiency without sacrificing performance. These customizable solutions ensure compliance with the stringent safety standards required for naval operations while also providing long-term durability in harsh marine conditions.
Aerospace Applications
Our material represents the optimal solution for military aircraft, particularly in low observable honeycomb core structures, offering enhanced damage tolerance compared to existing alternatives. The transition from aluminum to carbon fiber composites in aerospace has significantly reduced weight, leading to lower fuel consumption, decreased energy costs, and a reduced carbon footprint. Engineers dedicate substantial resources to optimizing the layup and orientation of each carbon fiber layer to maximize tensile strength while compensating for their inherent low compressive properties. Today, TJC’s high-modulus micro-composite fiber offers unprecedented compressive strength, enabling engineers to streamline composite designs and reduce manufacturing complexity. This advancement results in significantly lighter composite components for both commercial and military autonomous and manned aircraft.
Clean Energy
Wind turbine blade technology is advancing rapidly, with composite materials significantly enhancing performance and service life to meet the growing demands for productivity from each turbine. As wind farms strive to increase energy output to the grid, the design of composite wind turbine blades has been adapted to support larger generators, with blade lengths expanding from 30 meters to as much as 140 meters. As composite stress engineers push the limits of current high-modulus fibers, TJC’s micro-composite fiber, engineered for optimized strength, compressive strength, and dynamic flex fatigue performance, is breaking through existing constraints. This innovation enables the development of next-generation wind turbine blades, paving the way for more efficient and resilient renewable energy solutions.
Telecommunications Applications
Fiber optic cable (FOC) infrastructure is at the heart of rapidly expanding telecommunications network, facilitating ongoing upgrades to 5G network, followed by next gen 6G, to meet current and future data streaming demand. Big data and AI impact our everyday lives, from your home to commuting to work via autonomous vehicle. The demand for increasing FOC capacity is intensive. Optical fibers are a high value asset, therefore of key importance optical fibers are protected by high strength fibers forming a protective shield from physical damage. FOC reinforcing material must have little stretch because glass fibers do not stretch. Designs commonly use only 10% of the loading strength of the reinforcing material to protect glass fibers from tensile fracture. TJC Polymers FOC solutions have high modulus (low stretch) and are the ideal material for FOC applications. Aerial FOC lines with small size and high strength protect against failure during winter storms where the small size reduces buildup of ice, and high strength with low stretch prevents fracture of the glass fibers. Engineers are constantly striving to advance FOC technology, finding ways to maximize volume optical fiber, resulting in higher data transfer. The outer cable geometry is constrained; therefore, to increase volume optical fibers inside the cable the volume of high strength fibers is constantly being challenged. TJC micro-composite super fibers tuned for ultra-high-performance properties, in smaller yarn package, is helping the com’s industry strive to achieve future demand.
Energy Storage
Battery industry is striving towards higher power density, within transportation sector, pacifically EV vehicles this translates into increasing the range in miles per each charge cycle. Higher power density challenges all facets from battery enclosures and structural improvements to packaging and from durability (service life) perspective thermal management is of paramount importance. Advancing thermal dynamics, conductivity & abatement is where TJC material science provides huge benefits, minimizing risks and improving overall safety.
